Frequently asked questions

Who can compete?

Anyone 18 or older. Builders of every experience level are welcome, whether or not you are a Kent State student. Spectators of all ages are welcome.

What is the weight limit?

1.00 lb (453.6 g) for wheeled or tracked robots. Shufflers get 1.25 lb, and true walkers get 1.50 lb. Section 1 of the ruleset has the definitions.

Can I enter a multibot?

Yes. The combined weight allowance is split across the bots, and each bot keeps its own locomotion bonus. Section 1 has a worked example.

How long are matches?

3 minutes. A match that does not end in a knockout or tap-out goes to a panel of 3 judges.

What counts as a Hazard Bot?

A pneumatic system (150 psi max), or a weapon whose moving mass is more than 50% of the robot's weight. Hazard Bots need written technical pre-approval, so upload your documentation when you register. See section 2.

Does my robot need a weapon lock?

Yes. Locking pins must be in a high-visibility color or carry a tag. Bring test blocks for powering on outside the arena. See section 4.

Do club members pay the entry fee?

No. Members register free with the member access code. Ask an officer for it.

How much does it cost?

$15 per robot to compete, and $5 for a spectator ticket.

What do I need to bring?

Your robot, your controller, a charger, spare batteries, tools, safety glasses, and your weapon lock.
